Things to Do
The Arcadia All-Florida Championship Rodeo is one of the oldest and most renowned rodeos in Florida, held annually in Arcadia, DeSoto County. It is a multi-day event that attracts participants and spectators from all over the state and beyond.
The rodeo showcases a variety of traditional rodeo events, highlighting the skills and talents of both cowboys and cowgirls. These events include:
Bull Riding: A rider attempts to stay mounted on a bucking bull for a specified amount of time, showcasing balance, strength, and control.
Saddle Bronc Riding: A rider uses a specialized saddle to stay on a bucking horse, demonstrating poise and control while maintaining a good riding form.
Bareback Riding: Similar to saddle bronc riding, but without a saddle. The rider holds onto a rigging and tries to stay on the horse for the required time while it bucks.
Steer Wrestling: Also known as bulldogging, a rider on horseback chases a running steer, leaps off the horse, and wrestles the steer to the ground by grabbing its horns and steering it off-balance.
Team Roping: A team of two riders, a header and a heeler, work together to rope a running steer. The header ropes the steer's horns or neck, while the heeler ropes its hind legs.
Barrel Racing: A timed event where riders maneuver their horses around three barrels in a cloverleaf pattern. The rider with the fastest time while successfully navigating the pattern wins.
Apart from the rodeo events, the Arcadia All-Florida Championship Rodeo offers a festive atmosphere with live entertainment, including musical performances and specialty acts. Attendees can also enjoy various food concessions, vendors selling western-themed merchandise, and other activities that celebrate the culture and heritage of rodeo.
